100-Test club: 5 of the best compliments Virat Kohli has received over the years | Cricket News

NEW DELHI: Run machine, batting virtuoso, phenom, tenacious, extremely passionate — these are a few of the gazillion adjectives that have become synonymous with the name Virat Kohli over the past decade. From an overenthusiastic young lad who was running all over the place after winning the Under-19 World Cup title as captain in 2008 to ruling world cricket as one of the best batsmen of his generation, Virat’s journey as a batsman has been nothing short of a fairytale.
The wait for his next international century continues, but there is no cricket critic in the world who can question the former India captain’s dedication.

The proud face of Indian cricket, Virat, since he burst onto the international stage, has been on a mission and that has been tearing apart the record books, rewriting them and rewriting history. A total of 23,569 international runs so far, along with 70 centuries, the legacy of the 33-year-old continues to grow and inspire.

Now, with the responsibilities of being captain no longer weighing him down, Virat can focus entirely on his batting and try and go back to being the ever consistent run machine he has been in the past.

And as the batting maestro gets set to enter the IS Bindra Stadium in Mohali March 4, Virat will be adding another feather to his illustrious cap — a 100th Test. A landmark moment for the man himself and for his fans from around the world. Virat will become just the 12th Indian to play 100 Tests when India take on Sri Lanka in the first Test starting Friday.

Virat will be joining the elite list which has names like Sachin Tendulkar (200), Rahul Dravid (163), VVS Laxman (134), Anil Kumble (132), Kapil Dev (131), Sunil Gavaskar (125), Dilip Vengsarkar (116), Sourav Ganguly (113), Ishant Sharma (105), Harbhajan Singh (103) and Virender Sehwag (103) – who have previously represented India in a 100 Tests or more.
Over the years, Virat has given cricket fans, especially in India, a lot to cheer about. Scoring runs, dominating oppositions and raising the bar across the world. Though of late all the talk has been about him not managing to score an international century for a while, there is no doubt that he has a lot of cricket left in him. In fact, devoid of the responsibilities of captaincy, we might see Virat the batsman hit a new gear.
