Phoenix Mercury guard Kia Nurse out with ACL tear suffered in Game 4 vs. Aces

The Nurse was injured when Mercury’s Game 4 lost to the Las Vegas Aces. Phoenix Mercury announced on Friday that the new Kia Nurse will be out of action for the remainder of the 2021 WNBA playoffs after suffering an ACL injury to his right knee. That includes Game 5 of their final series with the Las Vegas Aces, set for Friday night in Vegas.

The nurse suffered an injury less than a minute later when Mercury’s Game 4 lost to the Aces on Wednesday. After A’ja Wilson missed the jumper, Diana Taurasi threw the passport in front of the Nurse, who was stomping on the change. As the Nurse grabbed the ball, she knelt down and fell to the ground in obvious pain.

While the Nurse is not given the same attention as Taurus, Brittney Griner and Skylar Diggins-Smith, she is still a big part of the group, and this is the brutal loss of Mercury. So far in the playoffs, Nurse has averaged 8.3 points, 3.3 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game, while shooting 45.5 percent in a 3-point world.

Save 3-point shots, those numbers don’t come up, but his ability to put down and monitor multiple positions at the defensive end made Mercury even more powerful. His absence will be seen as expected to win 5 games against the Aces, and if they can win, in the final against Chicago Sky.

This is very bad for the Nurse in terms of her level. He spent the first few seasons of his career at the infamous New York Liberty team, and this was his first chance to compete for the title. Now, he will not only miss that opportunity but also miss the next big season.

In addition, he will not be able to play overseas in the winter, which means losing a lot of money. There is no better time to tear down your ACL, but this has been a very difficult time for the Nurse.
