Ireland Cricket Team is set to tour Bangladesh for a full-fledged tour consisting of 3 ODIs, 3 T20Is & 1 Test. The tour is set to commence on 18th March and this would be the first tour of Ireland in Bangladesh as the last one was way back in 2008. Ireland has played 3 Test Matches after getting the status in 2018.
This ODI Series is not a part of the World Super League but with World Cup around the corner, both the teams would be eyeing to get ample match practice, especially Ireland whose direct qualification for WC 2023 is in doubt. Currently, Ireland is placed in 10th position with 68 points from 21 matches whereas Bangladesh is already qualified.
Ireland Cricket on Tour
Ireland Chief Exceutive Warren Deutrom was having an interaction with media and was quite pleased on the tour. “We are delighted to confirm Ireland men’s seven-match, multi-format tour of Bangladesh – and thank the BCB for their cooperation and support in agreeing this month-long tour. Since the two sides first met in 1997, there has been a great on-field rivalry formed and we look forward to what looks set to be another competitive series.” said Warren Deutrom.
“Of particular interest to players and fans alike will no doubt be the last fixture on the schedule – the match marks Ireland’s return to playing Test cricket. It will undoubtedly be a challenging experience in Asian conditions for our squad, but it will be invaluable to our players’ development knowing that we will be playing a great deal of cricket in Asia over coming years.” he added.
BCB on ICC FTP
Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Nizamuddin Chowdhury emphasized on the ICC FTP. “Ireland’s visit to Bangladesh is another exciting event in our home season after the series against India and England. The BCB and Cricket Ireland have a cordial and strong relationship and the two boards have worked very closely to arrange this bilateral tour despite the challenges of a busy international calendar. This is also a statement of the BCB’s commitment to the ICC FTP.” said Nizamuddin Chowdhury.
This tour promises to be a thrilling one as Bangladesh currently is on a roll. The Bangladeshi Tigers recently thrashed India against all odds and made a statement that they are not a team who just participates. Ireland would be quite happy as they would be playing against one of the best teams.
