Liga MX soccer is getting back underway after matches were postponed last week due to fan violence in Queretaro. With the soccer back underway, how the league responds to violence will be a large story over the weekend during the Clasico National, one of the largest rivalries in world soccer. This will be the 244th meeting all time (including friendlies), Club America holds the lead in victories but Chivas have taken the last two meetings and look to make it three in a row.
In solidarity after the violence, all fans have been asked to wear all white and with away supporters groups being banned from traveling, the Chivas section will be made up of children. There will also be an increased security presence for the match but hopes are that the soccer on the field and a message of solidarity in a rivalry without colors will be the stories on the night.
Here’s our storylines, how you can watch the match and more:
How to watch and odds
- Date: Saturday, March 12 | Time: 10 p.m. ET
- Location: Estadio Akron — Zapopan, Mexico
- TV: Telemundo | Live stream: Peacock
- Odds: Chivas +135; Draw +205; America +215 (via Caesars Sportsbook)
Chivas: Led by Alexis Vega, Chivas will look to punish a leaky America defense. Sporting a relatively young side, Marcelo Michel Leano has to make sure that they keep their cool in a massive derby match. Their inconsistent form has them 11th in the Clausura but that is good enough to have an advantage on their opposition on the day.
America: After topping the table during the Apertura, America have gotten off to a less than stellar start to the Clausura having gone winless in their last five matches. Struggling to score goals, America could struggle to contain a Chivas attack that’s one of the better scoring sides in the league. The hope is that after moving on from Santiago Solari to start the month, things will be on the upswing.
New management and the weight of the occasion will see the points shared on the day. Pick: Chivas 1, America 1
