Cincinnati schools celebrate Bengals’ Super Bowl appearance by giving students off Monday after big game

Usually, the Monday after the Super Bowl is filled with a lot of people calling out from work and school, especially for those who have their favorite team is in the big game. Cincinnati is getting ahead of this dilemma and just telling students and staff they have that day off no matter what happens when the Bengals face the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI.

It seems like a lifetime since the Cincinnati Bengals have made it to the Super Bowl, and for many it has been. The Bengals have not been to the Super Bowl since 1989, a loss to the San Francisco 49ers. Any Bengals fan under 33 years old was not even alive the last time they were on the big stage.

The Cincinnati school system wants to make sure everyone can stay up to watch the game and fully enjoy it without having to worry about getting to school the next day.

Not long after the Bengals defeated the Kansas City Chiefs in overtime in the AFC championship to advance to Super Bowl LVI, many Cincinnati school districts made the decision to take Feb. 14 off. Cincinnati Public Schools announced in a letter to parents Monday that they will have Feb. 14 off to celebrate “what we believe will be our city’s first-ever Super Bowl victory.”

Districts in the area that decide to remain open might not have many staff or students show, either celebrating a win or mourning a loss, both seem like good reasons to me to miss a day.

They will face the Los Angeles Rams, who will be playing on their home turf and who are coming off an NFC Championship win against the 49ers. This marks the second time in NFL history and the second consecutive year that a team has played the Super Bowl in its home stadium. Last year, the Tampa Bay buccaneers played and won the Super Bowl at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa, Florida.

If the Bengals end up hoisting the Lombardi Trophy on Feb. 13, I imagine the school system will do something similar with the parade day, giving everyone a day off so they can attend.
