ICC u-19 World Cup Final: ‘The Cup is coming home’, say Yashasvi Jaiswal and Priyam Garg | Cricket News
India, the most successful team in Under-19 World Cup history, will once again aim to create history when the Yash Dhull-led side takes on England in the grand finale of the 2022 edition on Saturday at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium in North Sound, Antigua.
India had last won the u-19 World Cup title in 2018 when the Prithvi Shaw-led Indian team defeated Australia in the final by 8 wickets.
Former Under 19 team captain Priyam Garg and batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal, who were part of the 2020 World Cup campaign, are confident that India will bring the cup back home again. The Priyam Garg-led team finished as runners-up in the 2020 edition. They lost to Bangladesh in the final.

“They have been doing amazing and playing amazing cricket. I am sure they will bring the cup home. I am sure India will beat England and win the World Cup. I want to wish every Indian player the very best, give their 100 percent and win the trophy. It’s the title clash. They have played superbly and entered the final. They have to overcome one more obstacle and the title will be ours. The team needs to focus on every ball, focus on the process. They are capable of doing that because they have been amazing in the tournament. I am supporting this team with all my heart and I am confident that they will win the final,” Jaiswal told TimesofIndia.com in an exclusive interview.
India’s current u-19 captain Yash Dhull smashed a brilliant century (110 off 110 balls), while Shaik Rasheed, the vice-captain scored 94 off 108 balls to hand India a resounding 96 run win over Australia in the semis.
“Yash (Dhull) has been phenomenal. Rasheed laid a solid foundation and platform for everyone. It was a wonderful partnership between the two against a top team like Australia. A final hurdle is left. I am sure the boys will cross it with ease,” Jaiswal, who was the top run getter of the 2020 edition and was adjudged the Man of the Series further said.

Priyam meanwhile is also confident that current captain Yash Dhull will join the likes of Mohammad Kaif, Virat Kohli, Unmukt Chand, and Prithvi Shaw who have guided India to World Cup titles in the past. Kaif captained India to a title win in 2000, while Kohli did it in 2008, Unmukt in 2012, and Shaw in 2018.
“I am sure India will bring the Cup home. We will see the fifth title for India at the Under19 World Cup. They should be playing the way they have been and should not take any pressure. India will be favourites against England,” Priyam Garg told TimesofIndia.com.
“Yash has batted brilliantly in the tournament. His 100 was crucial in the last match (vs Australia in the semis) and Rasheed was just amazing. He is a talented batsman. Yash will once again play a crucial role in the final. I am confident and 200 percent sure that the cup is coming home,” the former captain signed off.
