Lionel Messi: PSG forward tests positive for coronavirus

Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico and Nathan Bitumazala also contracted the virus and were confined to solitary confinement; Neymar will continue treatment for an ankle injury in Brazil and could stay for three more weeks.

Lionel Messi and three other Paris Saint-Germain players have been tested for coronavirus, the club has confirmed.

Juan Bernat, Sergio Rico and Nathan Bitumazala are also infected and confined to solitary confinement.

Messi appeared in PSG’s last six Ligue 1 games and as a result of his defeat to Manchester City and converted Club Brugge to Champions League A.

The 34-year-old, along with Bernat, Rico and Bitumazala, will miss the French Cup match against Vannes on Monday but awaiting a negative test, he could be there when he faces Lyon next Sunday.

As of Monday, fully vaccinated people in France who are tested for HIV will not only need to be alone for seven days regardless of a different coronavirus infection, but may come out on their own after five days if they show antigen or PCR negative testing.
