Lincoln Riley is beginning his tenure at USC in movie-star style. The Trojans’ new football coach spent a reported $17.2 million on a glitzy, 3.17-acre oceanfront mansion in the Los Angeles County city Palos Verdes Estates.
The mansion – which Riley purchased for $2.4 million below asking price –- has 13,000 square feet of living space over two floors, including seven bedrooms and 12 baths. A one-bedroom, 790-square foot detached guest house and a five-car garage are also on the property.
Here’s a look at the former Oklahoma coach’s new home, which features an elevator, a movie theater, tennis court, seven fireplaces, a 600-bottle wine room, a putting green, sauna and steam rooms plus a generator.
The mansion isn’t just flashy. It’s also historically significant, as it once housed Palos Verdes Estates’ first mayor, Fred Roessler, and is fittingly known as the “Roessler Estate.”
Riley, 38, had two homes in Norman, Oklahoma before bolting for USC. One sold already and the other has a $1.9 million asking price.
Riley’s big purchase comes after USC gave him a long-term deal worth a reported $110 million in November. If that figure is correct – USC is a private school, so it isn’t required to disclose employees’ salaries – he would be the nation’s highest-paid college football coach, narrowly passing Alabama‘s Nick Saban.
The salary comes with a hefty responsibility, as Riley is tasked with reviving a USC program that hasn’t cleared double-digit wins since 2017. Riley, who won four Big 12 championships in five years with the Sooners and earned conference Coach of the Year honors in 2018, seems to be capable of the challenge.
