Mitchell Santner On His First ODI Heroics

[ad_1]

Kiwi all-rounder Mitchell Santner scored a crucial 57 in the first ODI and kept his team in the game as he added a 162-run stand with Michael Bracewell. The duo almost won the match for New Zealand until their partnership was broken by Mohammed Siraj.

It was Santner’s third ODI fifty and probably his most memorable one as his knock almost made a difference in the team. The southpaw plays as an all-rounder in the XI and proved just his potential with the bat in the first ODI. He also took the prized wicket of Virat Kohli in the first ODI as well.

Heading into the second ODI in Raipur, the New Zealand all-rounder opened up on his knock in Hyderabad. He further opened up on his role with the bat which is pretty much hitting the ball from the get-go.

“Being an all-rounder you need to chip in both the departments. In the last year or so, getting more opportunities to bat has helped. It can be quite challenging at times if you are at the bottom and you have three or four overs left,” he said ahead of the second ODI.

Santner batted at the center nets during his practice session and practiced long-range hitting. He hit seven fours and a six in his knock during the first ODI and he looked well-prepared for the second ODI as well.

“The nature of batting at 7 and 8 is that you have to go hard from ball one and hit. You train for your role and that is what I do in the nets and try to hit some sixes. When you have more time to bat like the other night you get into your innings a bit more” the southpaw added.

Ish Sodhi is likely to be fit for the second ODI. He missed the first ODI with a niggle. The Kiwi spin twins can pose problems on an unknown Raipur track that will be hosting its first-ever international cricket match. Sodhi was seen bowling at the nets and will partner Santner and Bracewell the other spinners in the team.

The Kiwis lost the first ODI by 12 runs and need to win the second ODI to keep the series alive.
