National Signing Day 2022: Four-star DL Caden Story commits to Clemson over Florida, Auburn

A busy day of high-profile recruiting announcements got rolling on National Signing Day with four-star defensive lineman Caden Story picking Clemson over Florida and Auburn live on CBS Sports HQ. Story ranks as the No. 27 defensive lineman in the 2022 recruiting class and the No. 10 overall prospect coming out of Alabama, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

The 6-3, 282-pound lineman was picked for the All-American Bowl as well as the Alabama-Mississippi All-Star Game. He’s also younger brother of current Alabama safety Kristian Story, though the Crimson Tide were not one of the finalists in the late stages of Caden Story’s recruitment. Story initially committed to Auburn prior to the 2021 season but chose not to sign in December’s early signing period and decommitted on Jan. 16, re-opening his recruitment with an eye on Clemson and Florida.

Clemson had a head start in the process thanks to the hire of Nick Eason, an All-ACC defensive tackle with the Tigers as a player and former Auburn assistant involved with Story’s recruitment, and Florida made a strong push late even getting the versatile defensive lineman to Gainesville for his final official visit.

With a projection of developing into an NFL Draft pick, 247Sports’ recruiting analyst Clint Brewster writes that Story is a “long levered defensive lineman with an 80-inch wingspan and a thick and powerful lower half.”

He has shade versatility to line up in multiple spots along the defensive front and provide interior rush pressure. Very nimble and easy moving for a player with his body type and frame. Gets off the ball with body quickness and also shows a powerful initial push to reset the line of scrimmage. Can turn and chase plays down the field with nice manueverability and change of direction quickness. Very productive as a pass rusher and run stopper at the high school level. Needs to continue to develop his body, particularly his upper half. Has the frame potential to put on signifiant weight at the next level.
