Jahlil Florence, a four-star cornerback who was the top unsigned player in the 2022 recruiting class, announced his commitment to Oregon on Monday live on CBS Sports HQ. Florence chose the Ducks over USC, which made a late push with new coach Lincoln Riley.

Florence ranks as the No. 18 cornerback and No. 155 overall recruit, according to 247Sports Composite rankings. The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder from Lincoln High School in San Diego had 31 tackles, five interceptions and defended 10 passes in 11 games last season. He also thrived on the track and field team, clocking a 10.77 100-meter dash and 21.93 200-meter dash times in May.

Greg Biggins, national recruiting analyst for 247Sports, provided this scouting report on Florence:

Long, athletic corner who has made huge strides as a prospect over the last couple of years. A late bloomer to the game who was more of a basketball player coming in to high school. Plays a physical game and has the size and toughness to bully opposing receivers and the speed and quickness to turn and run with them as well. Shows excellent ball skills and ball awareness and has the skill set to play receiver at the college level although we like him as a corner. Is strong in run support and plays with a nice edge in his game.

Florence initially committed to Oregon on Aug. 12, but stepped back from that pledge on Dec. 9 — three days after former coach Mario Cristobal left to become the head coach at Miami. Former Georgia defensive coordinator Dan Lanning was named as Cristobal’s successor later in the month.

“They made me a super priority,” Florence said of Oregon. “Lanning called me the night before [the national championship game} and then he called me after.”

Florence is the 12th player to either commit or sign with the Ducks in the current recruiting cycle, and the fifth four-star prospect in the 247Sports recruiting rankings.
