Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) Asks Team Manager To Submit Report With Views From Different Individuals Following 317-Run Loss vs India

On Monday, January 16, Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) issued an official statement in which it was asserted that the team manager of Sri Lanka has been asked by the board to prepare and submit a report pertaining to Sri Lanka’s humiliating 317-run defeat against India with views from different individuals to find out the reasons behind the defeat.

The Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team scripted history during the dead rubber third ODI of the three-match series against the Dasun Shanaka-led Sri Lanka National Cricket Team at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram on Sunday, January 15, by registering the biggest ever victory in the history of One Day International (ODI) cricket.

India National Cricket Team won the toss and elected to bat first in the match. The decision proved to be advantageous for the side as two of India’s top-3 – Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill – registered outstanding tons. Gill smashed 116 runs off 97 balls, with 14 fours and 2 sixes, while Kohli slammed 166* runs off 110 balls, including 13 fours and 8 sixes. Rohit Sharma and Shreyas Iyer also chipped in with crucial contributions to help India post a mammoth 390/5 on the board in 50 overs.

Defending the target, Mohammed Siraj annihilated Sri Lanka’s batting unit with the new ball and then Kuldeep Yadav and Mohammed Shami bagged two wickets each to reduce Sri Lanka to 73/9 in 22 overs. Ashen Bandara was absent hurt, as a result, the visitors were bundled out for the same score, handing over India a whitewash.

“Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has directed the Manager of the National Team to submit a report pertaining to Sri Lanka’s heavy defeat faced against India in the 3rd ODI, which was played on the 15th January 2023 at Thiruvananthapuram,” Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) said in an official media release on Monday.

It was further mentioned in the official statement that the report pertaining to the embarrassing defeat of the side should consist of the views of the captain, the head coach, the selection committee and the team manager. Also, the team manager will have to submit the report within five days.

“The report should consist of views of the Captain, the Head Coach, and the Selection Panel and also the Team Manager pertaining to the loss. SLC has requested the Team Manager to submit the ‘Report,’ within a 5-day period.

“The report will enable Sri Lanka Cricket to review and understand the background to the team’s dismal performances during the final ODI, which it lost by 317 runs after being bowled out in 22 overs,” SLC further stated.

Notably, with the monstrous win over Sri Lanka, India managed to achieve the first-ever 300-plus runs triumph in the history of ODI cricket. The Men In Blue went past New Zealand’s 290 runs victory against Ireland in Aberdeen in July 2008, which came while defending 403.
