“There Have Been Constant Changes In The Team For A Long Time” – Robin Uthappa Slams Team India

Former India National Cricket Team batter Robin Uthappa has slammed India for making constant changes in the team and said that such a move doesn’t convey a positive message to the young players.

The left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav, last month, delivered a sensational Player of the Match performance in the first Test of the two-match series against Bangladesh, but then he was dropped from the playing XI in the next match.

Kuldeep Yadav, who was playing Test cricket for India after 22 long months, bagged a 5-wicket haul (5/40) in the first innings and a 3-wicket haul (3/73) in the second innings. Also, with the bat in the first innings, Kuldeep Yadav scored 40 and had a brilliant 87 runs partnership with Ravichandran Ashwin.

Robin Uthappa cited the example of Kuldeep Yadav and said that players don’t feel safe in a team environment where constant changes are being made.

“Kuldeep was ‘Player of the Match’ in the first Test against Bangladesh and he was out of the team for the next match; it doesn’t give (send) a good message,” Uthappa told PTI in an interview.

“Yes, you can explain things to Kuldeep once but this gives (sends) a wrong message to the young players that even after getting the ‘Player of the Match’, your place in the team is not assured,” he added.

“I think in the team. There have been constant changes in the team for a long time, when a player does not feel safe, he always remains with the mindset of saving his place in the team.”

Robin Uthappa further said that giving the players a sense of security is very crucial, which has not been happening in the Indian team for a long period of time.

He highlighted that the two of the most successful teams in the Indian Premier League (IPL) – Mumbai Indians (MI) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) – believe in making fewer changes in the squad.

“I think it is important to give a sense of security to the players. What we are seeing is, for the last few years, too many changes are going on. And in crucial matches, their performance dips because they are not sure of their place in (the) team for the next match.

“You look at IPL, most of the time such teams have won the titles which have made less changes in the playing XI. The success of Chennai (Super Kings) and Mumbai (Indians) also proves this,” Uthappa added.
