Defending a humongous total, Siraj provided India with a terrific start in the match. He cleaned up Avishka Fernando for 5 in the 4th over and then sent back Mendis for a 4-ball duck in the 6th over.
On the third ball of the 6th over, Siraj bowled a sensational 142.1kph good length delivery and it shaped back in sharply. The Sri Lanka batter failed to read the movement of the ball and went for a drive and was beaten on the inside edge and the ball shattered the stumps.

Mendis had a pretty bad day on the field in the Guwahati ODI. In the first innings, the wicket-keeper dropped a pretty simple catch of Virat Kohli behind the wickets and then got out without scoring.
Since his debut in international cricket, Mendis has registered 27 ducks, which is the joint-most alongside Jonny Bairstow. Following them on the list are Moeen Ali and Kagiso Rabada with 25 and 24 ducks respectively.
Earlier, Sri Lanka won the toss and invited India to bat first in the match. The decision backfired as the Men In Blue posted 373/7 on the board with the help of stunning performances from the top 3 – Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and Virat Kohli.
Gill scored 70 runs off 60 balls, with 11 fours, and Rohit smashed 83 runs off 67 balls, with 9 fours and 3 sixes. Also, Kohli scored 113 runs off 87 balls, including 12 fours and 1 six.
